Community Health

Program objectives

The Bachelor of Community Health program follows an application-oriented design to meet the needs of employers and relevant parties. The curriculum provides students with fundamental knowledge of basic medicine, community health, health organization and management, social sciences, political science, law, information technology, and foreign languages. It also teaches them how to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and operate professional activities in the Community Health field. Students learn to apply foundational technical knowledge of Community Health to their professional work.

The program develops a student’s ability to work independently or in teams under changing conditions, accepting both personal and group responsibility, and they can guide and supervise others in performing specific tasks. They learn to think critically, evaluate the quality of completed work and team performance, communicate problems and solutions in the workplace, and share knowledge and skills to carry out specific tasks. The curriculum also builds the necessary skills to solve basic problems, plan and manage resources, and defend personal views. Graduates develop the ability for creativity and entrepreneurship in the Community Health field.


Admission subject combinations

The program accepts applicants from two subject combinations. Combination A00 includes Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Combination B00 includes Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology.


Program duration

The Bachelor of Community Health is a four-year program, which includes eight semesters and 126 credits, covering both general education and specialized subjects.


Target applicants

The program admits students from both within and outside the country. The university follows the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific rules of Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes

Regarding knowledge, graduates can apply knowledge of basic science, social sciences, political science, law, information technology, and foreign languages to their professional work. They can explain the basic medical knowledge and principles that form the foundation of Community Health. Graduates learn to describe how to detect, classify, and manage common community health problems. They can also apply knowledge of scientific methodology to disease prevention and health promotion and can interpret knowledge of health organization, management, and laws related to protecting, caring for, and improving public health.

In terms of skills, graduates can create plans to address environmental and social factors that affect community health. They can develop plans to solve priority health issues in the community to propose effective healthcare solutions. They learn to participate in models for monitoring and evaluating community health programs. They can also take part in surveillance activities to detect epidemics early and contribute to community-based disease prevention efforts. Graduates can engage in scientific research based on the research skills they have learned. They can use their foreign language proficiency at level 3/6 of Vietnam’s Foreign Language Competency Framework and specialized foreign languages to search for international reference materials for research. They can also effectively apply skills such as communication, decision-making, and teamwork in their work.


Scholarship opportunities

Students can apply for scholarships under the general policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University.


Career opportunities after graduation

After graduating, bachelors can work in various medical facilities and other sectors. Opportunities exist in government health agencies like Departments of Health (in professional or planning offices), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), local health centers, and hospitals (as specialists in research, planning, quality assurance, or infection control departments). Graduates can also work for educational and research institutions like colleges, universities, and institutes related to community health and preventive medicine. Furthermore, they can find positions in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), both domestic and international, that are active in the Community Health and Preventive Medicine fields.


Postgraduate opportunities

After graduating, students in Community Health have the full capacity to continue their studies to a higher professional level. They can participate in short-term training courses in Community Health in Vietnam and abroad or pursue a second bachelor’s degree in a related major. Graduates can also enroll in postgraduate programs (Master’s, Ph.D., Specialist Level I & II) in Community Health at universities in Vietnam and abroad. Examples include:

  • Master of Community Health/Health Management

  • Ph.D. in Community Health/Health Management

  • Master of Hospital Management

  • Specialist Level I & II in Health Management

  • Specialist Level I & II in Community Health

  • And other closely related fields.
