Economics program with FIBAA accreditation

The Economics program, with specializations in Foreign Trade Economics, Economic Management, and Tourism Economics, achieves the international education quality accreditation from FIBAA.

Training objectives

The economics program provides students with a foundational knowledge of social sciences, political science, law, and information technology. It teaches them how to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and operate professional activities in the economic sector. Students also learn to apply basic technical knowledge of economic management to their professional work.

The program equips students with the necessary skills to solve complex problems, lead, start businesses, and create jobs for themselves and others. It develops their ability to think critically, evaluate work quality, and communicate issues and solutions effectively in the workplace. Students also learn how to share knowledge and skills for specific or complex tasks.

We train students to work effectively both independently and in teams under changing conditions, taking personal and group responsibility. The program develops their ability to guide and supervise others, plan and coordinate resources, and improve operational efficiency. Graduates can self-direct, draw professional conclusions, and defend their viewpoints.

Foreign trade economics specialization

This specialization connects learning directly with careers. We have a foreign trade practice lab where students experience real import-export operations as they happen in businesses. Students take on various roles in the import or export chain, such as an import-export business officer, a logistics staff member, or a shipping line agent. The program provides knowledge and skills in import-export management, negotiation, and international contract execution. Students also learn about international payment methods, shipping and insurance for import-export goods, freight forwarding, and customs procedures.

Economic management specialization

This specialization attracts great interest from both high school graduates and working professionals. At Tra Vinh University, we offer the Economic Management specialization as a full-time bachelor’s degree and a second degree. The program provides students with fundamental economic knowledge that they can use to manage and implement socio-economic policies at the local level. It also covers general topics in law, public finance, and project management.

Tourism economics specialization

The Bachelor of Economics program with a specialization in Tourism Economics meets the needs of employers and stakeholders. The program gives students the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude for economic research and business operations, particularly in the tourism services sector. Students develop economic thinking and analytical skills to solve problems. This helps them use resources effectively to support the sustainable development of the tourism industry and the local economy.

Program duration

Students earn a Bachelor of Economics in 3.5 years. The program consists of 7 semesters and requires 120 to 135 credits.

We welcome applicants from Vietnam and other countries. Admissions follow the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Graduates can apply basic knowledge of political science, law, national defense education, physical education, and environmental protection to their lives and careers. They use level 3 English proficiency and basic IT skills for their studies and work. They apply economic and management knowledge to solve problems in various situations. Students use analytical tools to plan and implement strategies, plans, and policies for businesses. They apply new research in economics and management to practical work in government agencies and companies. They analyze policies and laws to support decision-making. Students also evaluate socio-economic issues, review the implementation of economic plans, and assess economic policies in different localities. They can synthesize forecasts and develop solutions for economic, financial, and risk management issues as Vietnam integrates more deeply with the world.

Skills

Students learn to use statistical and application software for forecasting, research, and analyzing economic situations and policies. They apply economic management skills to run local economic organizations or businesses. They can assess the impact of government management tools on both micro and macro levels of the economy. Graduates can analyze short-term and long-term economic policies and development strategies at local or national levels. They can also manage finances, budgets, and revenue-expenditure plans for government agencies at all levels.

Career Opportunities

Foreign trade economics

Graduates can work in state management agencies, research and training institutions in foreign trade, and import-export enterprises. Job positions include import-export officer, documentation staff for forwarding companies and shipping lines, customs and tax specialist, transportation operations manager, and sales staff for shipping and logistics companies. They can also work in foreign-invested enterprises, commercial banks, Vietnamese trade representative offices abroad, multinational corporations, and international organizations.

Economic management

Graduates of this specialization can work as policy consultants, analysts, project officers, researchers, and lecturers. They find employment in government economic agencies from central to local levels, colleges and universities, socio-economic research institutes, and domestic and international socio-economic organizations and projects.

Tourism economics

Graduates with a specialization in Tourism Economics can work as economic managers or research specialists in government agencies and tourism-related projects. They can become researchers and lecturers at colleges, universities, and research institutions. They may also work as specialists or managers in economic organizations, especially tourism service businesses. Furthermore, graduates can start their tourism businesses.

Postgraduate opportunities

After graduating, students in the Economics program have the qualifications to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees in fields like Economic Management, Finance and Banking, and Business Administration at universities in Vietnam and abroad.
