Program objectives

The Laboratory Medicine Technique program follows a career-oriented design to meet the needs of employers and relevant parties. The program provides students with fundamental knowledge of social sciences, political science, law, information technology, and foreign languages. It also teaches them how to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and operate professional activities in the laboratory field. Students learn to apply basic medical knowledge to professional laboratory activities to serve the needs of diagnosis and treatment.

The curriculum fosters self-study and creativity, enabling students to work independently or in teams under changing conditions, accepting personal and group responsibility. They learn to guide and supervise others, think critically, evaluate work quality, and communicate solutions in the workplace. The program also builds skills to solve complex problems, manage resources, and improve activities. Graduates have strong professional knowledge and practical skills to participate in management, supervision, and technical quality improvement initiatives. They develop professional ethics, a high sense of responsibility, a careful work style, and a cooperative spirit, along with the ability to self-study and research to meet public healthcare needs.


Admission subject combinations

The program accepts applicants from two subject combinations. Combination A00 includes Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Combination B00 includes Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology.


Program duration

The Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine Technique is a four-year program, which includes 8 semesters and 145 credits.


Target applicants

The university admits students by the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific rules of Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes

Regarding knowledge, graduates can apply basic knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences, political science, and relevant basic medicine to solve problems in the health sciences field. They can apply specialized laboratory knowledge to provide useful information to clinical departments for diagnosis, treatment, and disease prognosis. They can also correctly evaluate test results based on specialized knowledge in biochemistry, immunology, hematology-transfusion medicine, microbiology, parasitology, cell testing, and molecular biology.

In terms of skills, graduates can manage a laboratory to operate safely and can implement measures to ensure test quality. They can supervise the use of chemicals and biological products and the operation of specialized laboratory equipment. They can proficiently perform common testing techniques, mass testing in the community, and some advanced techniques. They learn to skillfully use information technology and foreign languages in professional practice and research. Graduates can handle professional situations using critical thinking, communicate well with colleagues and patients, and work independently or in teams in professional activities and epidemic prevention.

Students can apply for scholarships under the general policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University.


Career opportunities after graduation

After graduating, students can work in various settings. They can work in laboratory departments of hospitals from the central to local levels. They can work in the medical testing field at educational and training institutions, health centers, and other health-related facilities. Graduates can also participate in research at institutes and research centers, or teach at medical training facilities (with additional professional training). Other opportunities include positions at general clinics and other testing centers.


Postgraduate opportunities

After graduating, students in Laboratory Medicine Technique have the full capacity to continue their studies to a higher professional level. They can participate in short-term training courses in Laboratory Medicine Technique in Vietnam and abroad. They can pursue a second bachelor’s degree in a related major. They can also enroll in postgraduate programs (Master’s, Ph.D., Specialist Level I) in Laboratory Medicine Technique or other fields at universities in Vietnam and abroad.
