Training Objectives
The Plant Protection program provides students with fundamental knowledge in natural sciences, social sciences, political science, law, physical education, national defense, information technology, and foreign languages. It teaches them how to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and run professional activities in the fields of crop science and plant protection. Students learn to apply technical knowledge of botany, microbiology, plant physiology, chemical pesticides, soil, fertilizers, and crop nutrition to practical plant protection work. The program also equips them with the specialized knowledge to propose, plan, research, and manage cultivation and plant protection systems that support sustainable and modern agricultural development. Graduates develop the ability to work independently and creatively, use scientific methods, and think critically to solve real-world agricultural problems. They are prepared for self-study and research to meet job demands, and they can guide teams, communicate solutions, manage resources, and create jobs for themselves and others through entrepreneurship. 🌿
Program Duration
Students earn a Bachelor of Plant Protection in 4.5 years. The program consists of 9 semesters and requires 150 credits, not including credits for Physical Education and National Defense Education.
Applicants
We welcome applicants from within Vietnam and from other countries. The admission process follows the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
Graduates can apply knowledge from natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and economics to solve problems in the plant protection sector. They can analyze how factors like plant genetics, biochemistry, physiology, soil, fertilizers, and agricultural ecosystems impact major crops in Vietnam, such as rice, fruit trees, and vegetables. Students learn to identify plant pests—including insects, mites, harmful animals, weeds, fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes—and detect new threats to select the best management strategies. They can also evaluate the mechanisms and potential of systemic approaches like biological, cultural, and chemical control measures, and use pest forecasting technology to manage integrated pest programs effectively.
Skills
Graduates can apply methods for surveying, collecting, diagnosing, and analyzing information related to plant pests to propose suitable prevention and treatment plans. They creatively use new scientific and technological achievements to solve common crop pest problems in a way that is technically, economically, and environmentally sustainable. Students can use English at level B1 (Level 3/6 of the Vietnamese language competency framework) and modern software to manage the production and business of plant protection products. They can analyze new plant protection issues and propose appropriate management solutions. Graduates also develop skills in multimedia and cross-cultural communication, creative and independent work, teamwork, and are capable of providing management and advisory support to leaders in businesses and government agencies.
Scholarship Opportunities
Students have access to scholarships according to the general policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University. In addition, students can receive various other scholarships, including academic encouragement scholarships and financial support from partner companies and businesses.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Plant Protection program can work in various fields related to plant protection, plant breeding, crop science, biotechnology, and agricultural production and services. They can work in production management, business, or research. Career positions include technical officer, consultant, agricultural extension officer, business development staff, or specialist in the agricultural services sector. They can also work as production managers, quarantine specialists, or lecturers and researchers at universities, colleges, and research institutes. Graduates find jobs in educational institutions, research centers, government agencies, corporations, farms, and cooperatives related to agriculture. Many also start their own businesses in the production, trade, and service sectors for plant protection products, crops, and agricultural goods.
Postgraduate Opportunities
After graduating, students in the Plant Protection program are qualified to advance their education. They can participate in short-term training courses on plant quarantine, standards, and regulations in Vietnam or abroad. They can also pursue a second bachelor’s degree in a related major. Furthermore, graduates are eligible to enroll in Master’s and PhD programs in Plant Protection at universities nationally and internationally.
