Preventive Healthcare

Program Objectives

The doctor of the Preventive Healthcare program follows an application-oriented design to meet the needs of employers and relevant parties. The program provides students with fundamental knowledge of basic science, social sciences, political science, law, information technology, and foreign languages. It also teaches them how to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and operate professional activities in the Preventive Medicine field. Students learn to apply foundational technical knowledge of Preventive Medicine to their professional work.

The program develops a student’s ability to work independently or in teams under changing work conditions, accepting both personal and group responsibility, and they can guide and supervise others in performing specific tasks. They learn to think critically, evaluate the quality of completed work and team performance, communicate problems and solutions in the workplace, and share knowledge and skills to carry out tasks in Preventive Medicine. The curriculum also builds essential skills to solve health problems, plan and manage resources, and evaluate and improve activities. Graduates can self-direct, form professional conclusions, defend their personal views, lead, start businesses, and create jobs for themselves and others. Finally, students acquire basic foreign language and computer skills to support their studies and professional work.


Admission subject combinations

The program accepts applicants from two subject combinations. Combination B00 includes Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. Combination B08 includes Mathematics, Biology, and English.


Program duration

The Doctor of Preventive Healthcare program is a six-year program, which includes 12 semesters and 203 credits.


Target applicants

The program admits students from both within and outside the country. The university follows the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific rules of Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes

Regarding knowledge, graduates can apply knowledge of basic science, social sciences, political science, law, information technology, and foreign languages to their professional activities. They can apply basic medical and specialized knowledge to perform the duties of a Doctor of Preventive Medicine. They also use fundamental knowledge to diagnose, treat, and prevent common diseases. Graduates can detect, classify, and manage common community health problems and can explain the environmental and social factors that affect community health. Furthermore, they can apply public health policies and laws to their professional work.

In terms of skills, graduates can examine and treat common diseases and provide preventive counseling. They can create plans to implement community healthcare programs and organize health education to promote healthy lifestyles. They participate in community-level care, such as preventing communicable and non-communicable diseases, managing accidents, addressing occupational diseases, and promoting functional rehabilitation. They can carry out health science research projects. They also use skills for teamwork, presentations, and reporting, know how to find documents, apply information technology in public health management, and use at least one foreign language to read specialized materials and update their knowledge.


Scholarship opportunities

Students can apply for scholarships under the general policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University.


Career opportunities after graduation

Graduates can work in a wide range of settings. These include public health facilities like medical centers and centers for disease control; government agencies like the Ministry of Health or local Departments of Health; and various community and health-related organizations. They can find positions in healthcare management, food safety agencies, and medical training institutions such as universities and colleges. Job opportunities also exist in research institutes, functional departments within hospitals (like Infection Control or Quality Management), and professional groups like the Preventive Medicine Association. Graduates can also work for international organizations, NGOs, or in the health departments of private companies and factories.


Postgraduate opportunities

After graduating, students have many options for advanced study. They can participate in short-term training courses on Preventive Medicine in Vietnam and abroad. They can also study for a second bachelor’s degree in a related major. Furthermore, they can pursue postgraduate degrees (Master’s, Ph.D., Specialist Level I, Specialist Level II) in Preventive Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Management, and other related fields at universities in Vietnam or other countries.
