Social Work

Program objectives

The Social Work program provides students with basic knowledge of social sciences, politics, law, and IT. It teaches them to plan, organize, and manage professional activities in the social work field at social assistance facilities, hospitals, schools, and industrial zones. The program also enables students to apply knowledge to advise on social policies that meet the country’s development needs and to connect community resources to help solve social problems.

The program also equips students with necessary skills to solve complex problems; to lead, start businesses, and create jobs. They learn to think critically, evaluate work quality, and communicate solutions in the workplace.

Furthermore, the program trains students to work independently or in teams, taking personal and group responsibility, guiding others, and managing resources effectively. They can also self-direct, form professional conclusions, and defend their viewpoints.


Program duration

The Bachelor of Social Work is a 3.5-year program, which includes 7 semesters and 124 credits.


Target applicants

The program admits students from both within and outside the country, following the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific rules of Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes

The Social Work program follows an application-oriented design. Graduates have basic knowledge of social sciences, politics, IT, foreign languages, and basic medicine to apply to social work interventions at the individual, group, and community levels. They can connect social support resources for patients in difficult circumstances and can assist medical facilities with legal and policy issues. Graduates can implement social work intervention methods to assist patients and their families and have the professional ethics and responsibility to solve social problems.

Knowledge Graduates can apply basic knowledge of political science, law, and national defense to their professional work. They can use foreign language skills, IT, and medical statistics to support professional activities. They apply knowledge of social and health sciences to explain social issues when assisting clients in various settings. They can also effectively apply knowledge of social security, social policy, and health policy when working with clients in need.

Skills: Graduates can provide effective counseling for clients in need of support. They can advocate to protect the rights of vulnerable groups. They learn to approach and communicate with clients, such as patients and their families. They can mobilize and connect social resources to support disadvantaged groups. Graduates can communicate policies and laws related to the health sector and can build social work models in hospitals, schools, and communities. They also apply skills in teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution in their professional work.

Career opportunities after graduation

Graduates can work at: Social work departments in hospitals and medical facilities; social work development projects in community health at NGOs; social protection centers, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and psychological treatment centers; counseling and student support teams at schools and universities; and the Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs at local and central levels.


Postgraduate opportunities

Bachelor in Social Work can be studied at the postgraduate level in Social Work or a related field.
