Tra Vinh University continues advancing in the nation’s development era

Throughout its nearly 25-year development journey, Tra Vinh University (TVU) continues to rise above difficulties and challenges, developing high-quality human resources for the Mekong Delta region and the entire nation. With their mission and aspirations, every staff member, lecturer, and student here writes the ongoing story of passion, dedication, and innovation. In this new phase, Tra Vinh University continues advancing in the nation’s development era.

Training high-quality human resources for the Mekong Delta and the nation

To realize this goal, TVU identifies training quality as a prerequisite factor. The university commits to improving teaching quality approaching international standards, an effort confirmed through prestigious ranking results and recognition from global educational organizations. Currently, the university has 27 training programs that have achieved international quality accreditation including FIBAA, AUN-QA, and ABET, with the Dentistry program meeting Ministry of Education and Training accreditation standards.

These include 11 programs achieving European FIBAA accreditation (Business Administration, Economics, Law, Accounting, Finance Banking, Sports Management, Office Administration, Master of Business Administration, Master of Economic Management, Master of Health Management, Master of Education Management), 12 programs achieving Southeast Asian AUN-QA standard accreditation (Agriculture, Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing – Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy, Khmer Language, Food Technology, Master of Culture, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, English Language), and 1 program achieving American ABET standards (Information Technology).

The university has 3 programs that have completed ABET accreditation and await certification: Construction Engineering Technology (ABET), Mechanical Engineering Technology (ABET), and Electrical-Electronic Engineering Technology (ABET).

Pursuing international accreditation represents an important strategy that the university persistently implements through comprehensive solutions over many years. Accreditation standards like AUN-QA, FIBAA, and ABET require the university to continuously improve program content, faculty, infrastructure, and student outcomes. This process helps TVU continuously enhance teaching quality, expand Co.op training programs with businesses, and ensure graduates have sufficient competence to meet increasingly high demands of domestic and international labor markets.

Scientific research emerges from practice

A highlight in TVU’s strategy is its focus on highly applicable scientific research. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa – Rector of TVU – explains that alongside academic research for publishing international papers, the university currently concentrates most resources, especially financial resources, on applied research to solve practical problems, particularly research serving community development and local needs.

Typically, during 2021-2024, the university published 1,340 articles in domestic scientific journals and 572 international papers, including 394 articles in prestigious WoS/Scopus listings. Evidence of this effort shows that during 2021-2024, the university added 10 protected intellectual properties, including patents and useful solutions. The foundation for these achievements lies in the system of centers and research institutes under TVU including the Mekong Delta Coconut Institute, Biotechnology Institute, Environmental Science and Technology Institute, Climate Change Adaptation Research Center and Community Support Center.

In agriculture, research on coconut wax embryo cultivation processes has increased the rate of wax-producing trees on coconut trays from the traditional method’s 0-25% to 100%. This technology has been transferred to many organizations and individuals domestically and internationally to expand production scale.

In aquaculture, at the 2-hectare experimental area, lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture – Aquaculture operate a covered super-intensive white-leg shrimp farming model. This technology reduces climate change impacts, prevents rainwater from entering ponds, and increases production efficiency.

In health sciences, a specialized field requiring close connection between theory and practice, TVU Hospital – a level 2 hospital with more than 150 doctors, medical staff, and modern equipment, connected with level 1 hospitals in provinces and Ho Chi Minh City – plays an important role in healthcare for local people and serves as a practical base for medical students.

Additionally, many international cooperation and community development projects have been effectively implemented, bringing research results into daily life. The university particularly focuses on preserving and promoting the cultural values of the southern region, especially Khmer Southern culture.

Adapting and creating the future

Dr. Doan Van Cong, Director of the Climate Change Adaptation Research Center and Community Development Support (TVU), states: “The university’s research aims to support localities in dealing with coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion, which directly affects people’s cultivation area and irrigation water sources.” The university implements many activities, including the SOARing project, aimed at building digital culture and enhancing digital capacity for stakeholders. Besides providing professional knowledge, TVU considers entrepreneurship and innovation as central to its educational strategy.

Regarding future development direction, university leadership affirms they will continue pursuing the strategy of “Advanced university, application-oriented, international integration.” The focus of this strategy involves improving training quality linked with businesses, promoting applied research and technology transfer, while developing TVU Hospital with deep specializations to serve people. Simultaneously, the university will enhance its national key role in Khmer culture, expand international cooperation, and implement comprehensive digital transformation in performance-based management. TVU confidently writes new chapters in its journey of creating value for the community and nation.

For consecutive years, Tra Vinh University has ranked in the Top 200 universities with green educational environments and sustainable development investment according to UI GreenMetric Ranking. For three consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024), the university received outstanding digital transformation awards. For the fifth consecutive year, Tra Vinh University continues advancing in the Top 100 universities with real impact. Notably, the university ranks at the top of the cultural value index – B5 (WURI Culture/Value), World Universities with Real Impact (WURI).
