TVU – Tra Vinh University hosted a delegation from Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on June 26 to discuss educational cooperation opportunities. The meeting focused on expanding partnerships, supporting Cambodian international students, and developing joint academic programs between the two institutions.
The delegation included Dr. Chuon Chivin, Secretary of State for Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; Dr. Taing You, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and ASEAN Affairs Department and Assistant to the Secretary of State; Dr. Nov Sambath, Lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Mr. Vuth Vannara, Secretary to the Secretary of State.
Tra Vinh University representatives attending the meeting included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa – Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Thach Thi Dan, Vice Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Ngo So Phe, Dean of the College of Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities; and leaders from affiliated colleges, institutes, faculties and functional units.
In his opening remarks, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa expressed his desire to establish long-term cooperative relations between Tra Vinh University and Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The Rector emphasized this opportunity for TVU to propose initiatives and cooperation programs, particularly in education, culture and sports.
Mr. Pham Quoc Khanh, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs Office at Tra Vinh University, reported on the learning situation and training activities of international students studying at TVU, especially Cambodian students. These students pursue diverse fields from the College of Medicine and Pharmacy (including General Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, and Dentistry) to other disciplines such as Construction, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Electronics, Chinese Language, English Language, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, plus university preparatory programs. The university continues to support international students both materially and spiritually through practical policies including scholarships, learning material support, extracurricular activities, practical field trips, infrastructure upgrades and improved living conditions.
In response, Dr. Chuon Chivin praised the university’s training activities over many years, especially for Cambodian students, while expressing deep gratitude to Tra Vinh University and the Vietnamese Government for their special attention to Cambodian students through scholarship programs and educational cooperation. He acknowledged the university’s positive contributions in training human resources for sustainable community development.
Both parties held open discussions and agreed on many potential areas for the future. The directions include implementing doctoral training programs in Cambodia, supporting Tra Vinh University’s international recruitment in Cambodia, building cooperation programs and promoting scholarship exchanges, faculty exchanges, and student exchanges.
The meeting also recorded many practical proposals for organizing cultural and sports events, strengthening exchanges between the College of Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities (CLASKA) under Tra Vinh University and the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Both parties discussed the possibility of organizing educational conferences in the future, developing joint online courses between Tra Vinh University and partner institutions in Cambodia, and building an educational cooperation framework between universities toward mutual credit recognition.

At the end of the visit, the delegation from Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports met with Cambodian international students studying at Tra Vinh University to encourage them and share valuable stories and experiences from their learning and living processes. This helps students gain more confidence and steady steps on their academic journey while better integrating into the learning environment.
