Tra Vinh University provides free dental treatment for nearly 300 residents in Tam Ngai commune

TVU – On September 28 at Tam Ngai Commune People’s Committee (formerly Thong Hoa Commune People’s Committee), the Community Service Center of Tra Vinh University collaborated with medical professionals from the Dentistry Clinic of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy to provide free dental examination, consultation, and treatment for nearly 300 residents in Tam Ngai commune, Vinh Long province.

The medical team treats dental diseases for residents

More than 60 doctors and medical professionals directly participated in examining, consulting, and treating dental diseases. The team came from the Dentistry Clinic of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Dentistry Department of the College of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP) at Tra Vinh University, Tra Vinh University Hospital, and dentistry students from Tra Vinh University.

The medical team conducted examinations and provided specific consultations about oral health conditions. They directly treated dental diseases, performed tartar removal, tooth extractions, dental fillings, distributed medications, and offered solutions for treating oral diseases and restoring missing teeth. The team also guided residents and students on proper methods for cleaning and maintaining dental hygiene.

Ms. Phung Thi Phuong Khanh, Director of the Community Service Center at Tra Vinh University, shared: “We remain committed to our community service mission. This free dental care program receives strong interest from residents and support from local authorities, contributing to protecting oral health for people, especially those facing difficult circumstances and students with limited access to healthcare.”

“In the coming time, Tra Vinh University hopes to continue this journey with the medical team from the Dentistry Clinic of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and sponsoring organizations, giving more people opportunities to access dental examinations and improving awareness and support for oral hygiene. We aim toward a community with brighter smiles and better oral health,” Ms. Phung Thi Phuong Khanh added.

Dr. Phan Ho Phuc Thang from the Dentistry Department of the College of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP) at Tra Vinh University offered advice on protecting oral health: “Oral health can affect nutrition, physical condition, psychology, communication, and reduce quality of life. Proper oral care helps effectively remove plaque and bacterial accumulation in the oral cavity, preventing risks of tooth loss.”

Expressing gratitude to the medical team, Mr. Do Van Giao said: “My family doesn’t have good financial conditions, so this free dental examination helps reduce costs significantly. Here, the teachers and doctors provide dedicated guidance, offer advice, conduct examinations, and teach us how to care for our teeth daily.”

Nguyen Huu Son, a student from the 2021 Dentistry class who directly participated with doctors in treating residents, shared: “We feel happy because we can apply the knowledge we learned at the university to caring for people’s oral health. This meaningful activity helps people in difficult circumstances in remote areas access dental examination and treatment services, creating awareness and forming daily oral health care habits.”

On this occasion, the Community Service Center of Tra Vinh University mobilized gifts for residents participating in dental examinations, treatments, and oral health care consultations, including jackets, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, sponsored by P/S Joint Stock Company and generous benefactors.
