Tra Vinh University’s College of Economics and Law hosts seminar on survey data applications in monetary policy

TVU – The College of Economics and Law at Tra Vinh University hosts a scientific seminar on January 4, 2025, focusing on “Application of Survey Data in Monetary Policy and Macroeconomic Planning.” The event aims to enhance the university’s research capabilities and further internationalize its training programs while providing students and faculty with advanced knowledge of survey data applications in macroeconomics.

Dr Nghiem Hong Giang from Leibniz University Hannover (Germany) leads the seminar, joined by CEL faculty members, including Vice Dean Dr Nguyen Tan Dat, School of Economics Dean Dr Duong Thi Tuyet Anh, Vice Dean Dr Tran Loi, and Deputy Chief of Office Dr Ngo Thi Cam An. The event draws more than 70 participants, comprising both undergraduate and graduate economics students.

Opening the seminar, CEL Vice Dean Dr. Nguyen Tan Dat expresses enthusiasm for the strong attendance. He emphasizes incorporating modern research methodologies, particularly survey data applications in macroeconomics, to enhance training and research quality.

 

Dr. Nghiem Hong Giang presents a comprehensive methodology for measuring inflation and inflation expectations using survey data. His presentation includes guidance on analyzing inflation indicators, identifying key influencing factors, and developing robust forecasting models. He also shares practical insights from his experience collecting survey data from households, businesses, and economic experts.

A central feature of the seminar is Dr. Giang’s presentation of his PhD dissertation, “Anchoring Households’ Inflation Expectations When Inflation is High,” completed at Leibniz University Hannover. The discussion generates particular interest among PhD students in attendance. Dr. Giang also shares valuable insights into crafting effective survey questions, developing representative samples, and analyzing measurement data.

The seminar concludes with active discussions and experience sharing among participants, creating an enriching, collaborative environment for academic exchange.
