In order to preserve and cultivate the “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, Tra Vinh province in general and Tra Vinh University (TVU) in particular have created a connection through the human resource training program for Cambodia to meet the needs of economic, social, scientific and technical development.
The two countries Vietnam and Cambodia have a beautiful and long-lasting traditional relationship that has been nurtured throughout a long historical period. In such a friendly relationship, Tra Vinh and Battambang of Cambodia are twinned provinces and also have a special relationship in economic and cultural exchanges.
In order to further cultivate the friendship between the two countries as well as to train human resources for Cambodia, according to the policy of the province, and the program of the Ministry of Education and Training on training international students, TVU has enrolled the first course for Cambodian students in 2012, and as a result, 37 candidates have been accepted. From 2012 to 2020, TVU has trained 125 students (10 students at the college level, 115 students at the university level) in 9 majors: General Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, Odonto-Stomatology, Construction, Finance-Banking, Business Administration and Electronics.
With the concern and support of the Party leaders, the Tra Vinh provincial government, the Cambodian Embassy and TVU, the Cambodian students received great both physical and mental support during their time studying at TVU. Many policies have been implemented such as scholarships, learning materials, extracurricular activities, investment in facilities, accommodation and living conditions for Cambodian international students. Meanwhile, TVU also executed well in ensuring the program of Vietnamese language as well as expert training. TVU has created the best learning and research environment for Cambodian students to quickly integrate into the new environment in Vietnam from language, culture, and communication to law; additionally, special activities are also held on Cambodian New Year as well as Vietnamese New Year occasions. As a result, all Cambodian students are able to speak Vietnamese fluently and are highly appreciated in terms of expertise skills. Until now, 87 students have graduated and returned to serve their home country.
Students studying at TVU as well as Cambodian leaders always consider this a noble gesture by the leaders of the Party and government of Tra Vinh province for the students in particular and the Cambodian people in general. Specifically, leaders of the Government, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia and other socio-political organizations also visited the students during their time at TVU and discussed with Tra Vinh provincial government and TVU leaders about cooperation in many fields. Besides, they also expressed deep gratitude to the attention of provincial leaders and TVU for training human resources for Cambodia.
At the meeting of Cambodian foreign students on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations, which took place at TVU on June 24, Comrade Nguyen Trung Hoang, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman of Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association in Tra Vinh, and representatives of the Union of Friendship Organizations in Tra Vinh highly appreciated the role of TVU in training human resources for Cambodia over the past 10 years as well as making an important contribution to cultivating the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
According to the plan of TVU, in the following years, when the Covid-19 epidemic situation is under control, it will continue looking for international students, including Cambodian students, to train more human resources for their country.
It can be seen that cooperation activities in the fields of education and human resource development between Vietnam and Cambodia have always received great attention and respect. The initial results achieved by TVU in the process of training human resources for Cambodia have practically contributed to consolidating, preserving and developing the close solidarity between the two countries. This is also an important testament to the close friendship between Cambodia and Tra Vinh province in particular, and Vietnam in general, based on the relationship of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability”.
