
Program objectives
The Southern Khmer Traditional Instrument Performance program aims to provide students with basic knowledge of social sciences, political science, law, and information technology. It teaches them to plan, organize, supervise, manage, and operate professional activities in the field of musical arts, especially Southern Khmer Folk Music. The program also enables students to apply foundational technical knowledge to their professional work.
The program also equips students with necessary skills to solve complex problems; to lead, start businesses, and create jobs for themselves and others. They learn to think critically, evaluate work quality and team performance, communicate problems and solutions in the workplace, and share knowledge and skills for specific or complex tasks.
Furthermore, the program trains students to work independently or in teams in changing work environments, taking personal and group responsibility. They gain the ability to guide and supervise others, plan and manage resources, and evaluate and improve activities. They can also self-direct, form professional conclusions, and defend their viewpoints.

Combination N00 includes Literature, Music Aptitude 1 (Music Knowledge), and Music Aptitude 2 (Instrumental Performance).
Program duration
The Bachelor of Khmer Traditional Instrument Performance is a four-year program, which includes 8 semesters and 134 credits.
Target applicants
The program admits students from both within and outside the country, following the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific rules of Tra Vinh University.

Learning outcomes
Regarding knowledge, graduates can apply basic knowledge of political science, law, national defense, and physical education to have a correct awareness in life and work. They can apply foreign language and IT skills to their studies. They use knowledge of political lines, art, and social sciences to inform their practice. Graduates can generalize basic music concepts, analyze music history, and connect theory to performance. They learn to analyze musical works and use research methods to evaluate and preserve folk music values.
In terms of skills, graduates can preserve and promote Southern Khmer folk music heritage. They learn to use new technologies to develop ethnic music. They can perform on Southern Khmer traditional instruments and perform vocals in traditional and folk styles. Graduates can stage folk art programs for local communities and propose solutions for cultural preservation. They can participate in scientific research, collect folk music, and are skilled in solo and ensemble performance. They can also organize grassroots musical activities, work in teams, present to crowds, and show confidence in communication and artistic collaboration.
Scholarship opportunities
Students can apply for scholarships under the general policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and Tra Vinh University. Additional scholarships include:

The university also has many support programs, offering tuition and dormitory fee exemptions and reductions for students.
Career opportunities after graduation
Graduates can work at Departments and Offices of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Cultural Centers at all levels. They can work for Radio and Television stations, newspapers, and museums in provinces with large ethnic minority populations. They can teach traditional Khmer music at primary, middle, and high schools. They can join Art Troupes for music, dance, and ethnic art performance. Graduates can also find positions at conservatories, academies, universities, colleges, and vocational schools that teach and research music and art. Another option is working for non-governmental projects for ethnic minorities.
Postgraduate opportunities
Graduates can continue to study at higher levels, such as Master’s and Ph.D. programs at domestic or foreign training institutions.
