The device made by the research team of Tra Vinh University can determine waxy/regular coconut with the probability of 95% and the percentage of solid and liquid wax with 80% probability.
The Evaluation and Acceptance Board of Scientific and Technological Tasks of Tra Vinh Province has just accepted the topic “Design and manufacture a device to determine the percentage of wax in coconuts” by Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University.
Wax coconut is a famous specialty of Tra Vinh province. However, determining the percentage of wax in coconuts has long depended on the experience of gardeners. In the past, gardeners often shake the coconut to choose which one has wax, but maybe not accurate. Using deep learning equipment helps gardeners determine whether the wax percentage in coconuts, the probability is up to 95%, and the solid or liquid wax probability with 80%, should be ranked good by the council.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa said: “Over the years, Tra Vinh University has promoted applied research and technology transfer activities among lecturers and students. In particular, TVU focus on strongly developing the invention space – The Maker Space; student research groups – IEEE Student Chapter, Lab and invention space for students, lecturers, Students cooperative models, student farmer associations, and policies to encourage the incubation of start-up ideas, scientific research, and technology transfer applied to serve the community.”
Next time, Tra Vinh University continues to prioritize the implementation of research projects with products in commercial potential, investing in research directions, prioritizing community service, and closely associated with businesses, departments inside and outside the province in order scientific research and technology transfer.
