(TVU) – On May 6, Tra Vinh University holds a ceremony launching planting activity in the education sector at the university’s campus and an opening ceremony of TVU Green Campus Competition with a large attendance of more than 200 students and lecturers of Tra Vinh University. Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University gives the opening speech at the ceremony.
At the ceremony launching planting activity, Vice-Rector Thach Thi Dan said: “In 2013, Tra Vinh University was one of the first universities in the country to sign Taylor’s statement, committed to building a Comprehensive Green University. UI Green Metric World University Rankings (UI Green Metric) has also announced the ranking results of the world’s most sustainable universities in 2019. Tra Vinh University placed the top 300 universities in the world and the second of Vietnam, announced by UI GreenMetric in December 2019.
In 2020, Tra Vinh University was one of the two universities in Vietnam announced by UI Green Metric to be in the top 200 universities with sustainable development and environmental friendliness in the world (an increase of nearly 100 levels). Tra Vinh University was also known as the first green university in the Mekong Delta and ranked 86th by WURI Ranking in the top 100 universities that have positive influence and contribution to society.
Through the ceremony, on behalf of the university’s leaders, Vice-Rector Thach Thi Dan calls on all officials, lecturers and students to actively and strongly take part in the movement of National week for clean water and environmental sanitation in the year of 2021, the World Environment Day on June 5th and the planting movement in the education sector; especially, all students of Tra Vinh university continue their actions towards a green sustainable university, heading to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Tra Vinh University and 20 years of successful implementation of the community college model.
Also in this event, more than 200 students from the university’s faculties are divided into 16 teams participating in the planting competition with the theme of TVU Green Campus organized by the University. The organization board has provided 16 Tabebuia rosea for each team to plant. After that, they will participate in presentations and some word games and quizzes. The judges will give marks and be expected to announce the results on June 3.
Pham Thi Thuy, a student of the Faculty of Odonto stomatology, said that organizing annual environmental protection activities creates a sense of hygiene and garbage classification, mitigating the impacts of climate change. Moreover, the activity of planting in the campus this year, with the participation of many students, is really meaningful and even more meaningful because these plants would be our memories after we graduate.
“TVU Green Campus competition” and “the planting activity in the education sector” will raise students’ awareness about environmental protection, limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products, encourage students to use materials and utensils made from the natural and friendly environment, together build Tra Vinh University to be a green, clean, beautiful and friendly university.
