Tra Vinh University has brought a younger team, compared with the previous year, the most of which are freshmen, to the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 – THACO Cup, in an attempt to achieve the only slot to the Southwest qualification.
Mr. Tram Quoc Nam, the coach of the Tra Vinh University football team, shares that the team experienced several personnel changes before going to the Southwest qualifying round of the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 – THACO Cup. Many new players, especially freshmen, will debut in this year’s tournament.
Despite their recent debut, the young players have already made indelible impressions. They were put to the test in the SV Cup hosted by the Ministry of Education and Training at the end of November 2023. The result was surprising when the Tra Vinh University team defeated the other six teams, took first place in the Southwest region, and entered the national finals.
The new force is not as experienced as last year’s players. With their efforts in practice, however, the team has received many compliments when they gradually established a stable and coordinated playing style. Rejuvenation is also one of the long-term strategies, according to coach Tram Quoc Nam, to develop the Tra Vinh University football team by passing down training customs while also giving it a fresh appearance.
Since the players have played football together for a period of time, the preparation for the tournament was much simpler. They have just started training on February 19. The training board provided two training sessions each day for a total of ten days. To improve their playing style and create more friction, the players played with a local team in the afternoons after performing tactical coordination practices in the morning.
When going to the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 – THACO Cup, the Tra Vinh University team was determined to win both the Tay Do University and FPT Can Tho University teams in order to secure the top spot in Group 2. This will allow the team to take part in the play-off game of the Southwest qualifying round, competing for the one and only ticket to the national championship.
Coach Tram Quoc Nam also feels that the situation is quite unpredictable after taking into account the opponents in Group 1, which are Mekong University, Nam Can Tho University, and Can Tho University. In the competition for the ticket, Can Tho University has a little advantage over the two other teams. However, Tra Vinh University is confident that they can still accomplish good results if they face the Can Tho University team again in the play-off match. This is because Tra Vinh University defeated Can Tho University in a series of penalty kicks to win the first rank in the Southwest region in the recent SV Cup.
Coach Tram Quoc Nam claims that the Tra Vinh University team will not apply a fixed strategy. The tactical strategy will be implemented flexibly, such as quick-slow passes, pressing, and long balls, depending on each opponent. Understanding the opponents’ advantages and disadvantages is undoubtedly essential to choosing the appropriate playing style. Therefore, Mr. Nam is excited to watch how his students will express themselves in a large-scale setting such as the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 – THACO Cup.

According to the qualification schedule of Group F (Southwest region) of the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 – THACO Cup, Tra Vinh University will have a match with Tay Do University on March 3 at 4:00 p.m. and a match against FPT Can Tho University on March 7 at 4:00 p.m. All matches will be taken place at Can Tho Stadium. |
