Tra Vinh University (TVU) students create a pair of equipment for monitoring field water and controlling smart pumps competing in the MECA 2021

MECA 2021 is a lab where engineering students can experiment with intelligent automation solutions based on Mitsubishi devices. Six universities from the Southern took part in the competition.

The final round has held on May 13 and 14, 2022, with 18 teams competing. Each institution sent three representative groups to play, and the final ranking was determined. TVU contributed three models and equipment to the competition, including implementing a five-story elevator model, the manufacturing of equipment to monitor field water level and regulate smart pumps, and the design of a tomato sorting and canning machine.

The system for monitoring the field water level and operating the smart pump, in particular, was praised by the judges for its practicality and use of renewable energy to aid environmental protection. The device can measure the value of field water, store and monitor data on the web, and control the pump automatically when the water level in the field falls below the level recommended by agricultural experts, for each growth stage.

The “smart farming” device recently earned the “Environmental protection solution” prize

Since 2021, the device has been used in three rice harvests in An Giang, Can Tho, and Tra Vinh, reducing the cost of fertilizers, herbicides, and manpower while also reducing the amount of water used for irrigation and improving rice farming earnings.

Although, TVU was a first-time participant in this playground, the Jury and the teams praised it for its enthusiasm, concepts, and practicality. The award for “Environmental protection solutions” went to the project “Manufacturing devices for monitoring field water level and regulating intelligent pumps.”
