SINGAPORE – From 11th to 15th of May, TVU School of Foreign Languages Trieu To Hoa participated in a five-day Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Bootcamp organised by Yale-NUS college in Singapore.

Hoa was among 50 students both from Yale-NUS and National University of Singapore.

 

Students were taught essential skills and knowledge required for working in the non-profit sector through workshop-style programmes, seminars and case studies.

 

“I’ve worked with a team of highly experienced professionals who led the various sessions of this NGO Bootcamp,” said Hoa, the fourth year student at TVU Foreign Languages School. “And the five-day bootcamp actually boosts my knowledge of how NGOs work, and on how communications and critical thinking skills are a must to be successful in today’s globalised society.”


 

Trainers are from Yale–NUS faculties and NGOs including the Association of Women for Action and Research, National University of Singapore’s Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.


 

This five-day intensive training gave Trieu To Hoa a good opportunity to study in a typical Singaporean class where thinking skills are highly valued and appreciated.

 

Hoa’s thesis work on translation topic for her bachelor's degree at SFL was due on Friday 15, May, the day she was at the Singapore-based bootcamp.

 

“I was lucky to have great support from the School of Foreign Languages,” said Hoa. “The Board understands my situation and allows me one week extension.”

 

Yale-NUS is a liberal arts college in Singapore that is the result of a collaboration between Yale University and the National University of Singapore.

 

TVU – In the morning on May 15, 2015, Madam Nuala O’Brien, Deputy Ambassador of Ireland  to Vietnam and the delegation paid a visit to TVU. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector warmly welcomed the delegation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his pleasure to receive the Deputy Ambassador and representatives. A considerate discussion focused on projects of technical transfer and economic development was the meeting’s theme.  

 

 Madam Nuala O'Brien, Deputy Ambassador expressed her gratitude for the hospitality. “We are very pleased to witness the community model at TVU”, said the Deputy Ambassador.

 

 Dr. Colman Ross, PRPP Senior Technical Specialist paid special attention to Gender and Community Department of TVU. “ We are happy to offer technical support to projects on gender”, he said.

 

On this occasion, the Deputy Ambassador provided a brief introduction about the scholarship program of Government of Ireland. The Government donates 30 sholarships for master program to candidates of Vietnam annually. Madam Nuala O'Brien hopes TVU lecturers and staff to be eligible for the scholarship program.

Dr. Prose Ivy G.Yepes expressed her sincere thanks to TVU Rector Board for receiving and facilitating SLSU students for their practicum. “We are very pleased about what happening and continue to introduce Filipino universities to TVU”, said the new President.

 

Ten Filipino organizations visited TVU consisting of Department of Science and Techonlogy (DOST), Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), East Vasaya State University, Naval State University (NSU), North West Samar State University (NsSSU), Palompon Institute of Techonlogy (PIT), Samar State University (SSU), Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) and Visayas State University (VSU).

TVU – In the morning of April 24, 2015, Singapore entrepreneur delegation looked for collaboration opportunities with TVU through their visit. TVU Vice Rector Nguyen Tien Dung warmly welcomed the delegation.

Training programs of SPERO have been expanded in foreign countries including Vietnam, Ms. Velle Hateya Tay, Director of SPERO said. She strongly hopes that co-operation potential on education will be implemented after the visit.

 

We need to improve training quality to compete with neighboring countries and to improve income for inhabitants. Singapore is promoting investment to Vietnam for the abundant labor resources,  revealed Mr. Lee Kwek Siong, Director of Fagioli Asia.

 

"Cooperating with TVU to offer international courses on transport and logistic to help the graduates work internationally is what as my expectation," Mr. Woon Wee Peng, Managing Director of Hup Hin Transport Co Pte LTD said.  

 

 Tra Vinh province is currently focused on developing high-level skills in areas of construction and transport. The Department of Planning and Investment surely supports TVU and the delegation for local procedures for the co-operation, emphasized Mr. Tran Thanh Khiet, Deputy Director of Department.

 

Vice Rector Nguyen Tien Dung expressed his gratitude to the delegation for the visit and looked forward to fruitful collaboration after the considerate discussion.

TRA VINH, 28 April – Dr Ho Dac Tuc, deputy dean of TVU School of Foreign Languages, has recently co-published two papers with Drs François Malherbe and Vivienne Waller of Swinburne University in an international conference proceedings.


The first paper entitled "Innovating campus sustainability projects through international collaborative engagements," was presented in the Proceedings of the 14th International Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) hosted by Tasmania University, Australia.

The paper details the sustainability joint project between Swinburne and TVU Universities that highlight aspects of active partnership and staff engagement critical in developing cross border sustainability programs. The main objectives of the project are to offer a platform for students from Australia and Vietnam to jointly develop proposals to improve the physical environment of the Vietnamese campus, and disseminate the message of sustainability to the community.

 

The paper is published in the peer-reviewed Proceedings of the 14th International Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) and can be found online at http://www.acts.asn.au/conference-proceedings/, or download here.


The second paper entitled "Green transformations at a university campus in Vietnam" identifies key factors that made the green joint project between the two Universities success. These factors include the need to adequately prepare the students and the need to actively scaffold the learning in practical activities. The joint publication is truly part of the joint effort on environmental education between TVU and Australia’s Swinburne University of Technology after Associate Professor Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector, has signed the Talloires Declaration - an international commitment to sustainability in higher education.


In 2014 and 2015, Dr François Malherbe of Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, and Dr Vivienne Waller of Faculty of Health, Arts and Design have led Swinburne students to Tra Vinh to develop a collaboration project around ‘going green’ with TVU students.

 TVU – In the morning of April 1, 2015, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector warmly welcomed Mr. Jo Jong Gon, Planning and Auditing Chief, Department of Planning and Auditing, Gimje city, Korea and the delegation.

The visit was to look for the opportunities for co-operation in agriculture and research in this field. The two provinces had much collaborative potential to offer training courses as well as make qualified agricultural products and machines thanks to the similarities in agricultural strength, Mr. Jo Jong Gon said.  

 

At present, Gimje city has a new rice species with high yield. “We hope the two parties can cooperate to multiply this new rice variety or create other new rice varieties for higher yield”, sai Mr. Kim Tae Han, the International Cooperation Section Assistant Director.

 

After the meeting, the delegation took a facilities tour and paid a visit to agriculture and aquaculture labs.

TVU – March 4, 2015 – Mr. Le Van Don, TVU Vice Rector, received five interns from Leyte Normal University (LNU), Philippines for their 12- week practicum at TVU as per cooperation agreement between TVU and LNU.

Dr. Elizabeth Quimbo, Director of Practical Teaching as the coordinator of this program said: “These interns are senior students majoring in English Teaching. We are proud of sending our students to the new academic environment as TVU for practicing teaching methods”.

 

These interns will have their practicum at Victory Center of Informatics and Foreign Languages and Center for International Collaboration in Education and Training.

 

Through this cooperation program, they exchange cultures with Vietnamese community and the academic environment at TVU will broaden their studies.

 

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Le Van Don thanks the Filipino delegation and strongly believes the internship will enrich their knowledge, academic training and international experience.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Tran Van Trong thanks and acknowledges the contribution of cialis Canada individuals and organizations to TVU. Vancouver Island University where she used to work is an important strategic partner of TVU for 2+2 training co-operation in Business Administration.

 

Dr. Elizabeth Potvin is scheduled to teach English courses and delivers specialized seminars on the Canadian culture and literature to students.

TVU - The Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam David Devine visited Tra Vinh University (TVU) in a trip set to launch enterprise development project in Tra Vinh and strengthen TVU’s academic links with Canada.


The Ambassador was greeted on the January 30 at the TVU Campus One by Mr. Dong Van Lam, the Provincial People’s Committee Chairman, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, the Provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman, as well as Ass. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector.

SME  TraVInh MemberAddressing a gathering at the Launching Ceremony on Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project, Ambassador David Devine noted that one of the major impediments to small and medium businesses has always been accessing affordable finance, and it is important to accelerate private sector investment and growth.

 

He pointed out that the project contributes to developing and implementing key priorities of the province’s five-year Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Plan. The project also aims to improve environmental sustainability and ensure gender equality.

 

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam said since Canada and Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2014, the Tra Vinh provincial government has committed to providing a structured framework to promote the competitiveness and development of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the province.

The project also aims to improve SMEs’ access to markets in about 20 targeted communities in Tra Vinh province by building priority small-scale infrastructure such as waste treatment facilities, inter-village roads and bridges to improve rural transportation.

 

The project is being funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD-Canada), which will see over CAD$11M going towards the project. Funding is to be implemented over the period of 2014 – 2020.

 

Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector and Chairman of the Vietnamese-Canadian Friendship Association as well as Vietnam Association of Community Colleges (VACC), said: “Tra Vinh Community College, which was granted university status in 2006, greatly benefited from the Vietnam-Canada Community College Project (VCCCP). The project, based on Canadian approaches but adapted to the Vietnamese context, is a successful model in Vietnam.”

 

Dr. Khanh added that the model has demonstrated a significant commitment of the two countries in implementing the project.

 

The Ambassador later met with the TVU governing board and was given a short tour and presentation of the University development, including opportunities for further academic links between TVU and Canadian universities.
